digital photo frame shaped like a polaroid photo

Polaroid will soon cease production of Polaroid film. According to David Friedman, the last product that polaroid should make is ‘a digital picture frame that makes sure the familiar look of a Polaroid photo lives on‘.

He even creates some very cool mock images of it both standing up and pinned to a cork board. I love that you can write on it by hand because ‘sometimes it’s nice to preserve at least a little bit of the old way of doing things‘.

I love one of the comments on the post also:

The icing on the cake would be adding in an aging filter… as the photos get older, they fade slightly and turn brownish green.

sleevefacing

I recently discovered Sleeveface. With loads of LP record sleeves still around, one of Sleeveface’s creators, John Rostron, decided it would be fun to collate photos of people creating illusions by obscuring or augmenting parts of their bodies with record sleeves. The Sleeveface thing has since taken off. There is a website and a growing collection of flickr photos tagged sleeveface. Three of my favourites are below:

valentines day & why aesop and bloomsberry chocolate rocks

K and I normally don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day. We both think it’s a tad over-commercialised and that you should celebrate those who you love every other day of the year. But, for some reason, we both got each other small gifts this year, the first in a long time.

I got K a beautiful combination skin starter kit from the recently opened Aesop store in Queen’s Plaza. The store has a quirky industrial/orderly feel and I ♥ the brand’s attention to detail. Aesop’s packaging is consistently aesthetic. They also have really cool quotes on all their stuff and they give you free samples of something different with your purchase. K loved the Aesop kit I got her.

I was stoked with my gift from K also. First there were two pocket sized books on Malaysia/Thailand (including the BKK Wallpaper* pocket guide) for our trip this year, and also a slab of delicious Bloomsberry chocolate. It was the first time I have received Bloomsberry chocolate and what a treat it is. They are clearly the winner of my best chocolate user exeperience award. Firstly the packaging is amazing. Not only is the outside packaging very clever, the inside ‘outer’ wrapper has a georgous pattern and the inside ‘inner’ wrapper is gold foil which both looks beautiful and keeps the chocolate fresh. Throw in some witty and thoughtful messages on keeping it green and you have a seriously cool experience. Plus, the chocolate tastes really nice too. I wish more companies would show this much attention to detail. I guess that’s why I ♥ it so much though, that other companies don’t make the effort.

An Aesop Quote to Finish

on current music

Thievery Corporation @ Good Vibrations, Brisbane

Last Sunday we walked across the bridge to watch Thievery Corporation over the fence at the Riverstage. It was a beautiful day and beautiful music. They toured with a twenty odd piece band and the sounds were polished and varied. My favourite live track was my favourite album track: the richest man in Babylon.

Jack Johnson – Sleep Through the Static

I really like the new Jack Johnson album. I already have heard people saying it’s too similar to In Between Dreams, but I don’t mind, both are great albums to me. I can’t wait to see him at Riverstage on March 16. We actually bought tickets this time.

John Butler – One Small Step – Live & Solo

I love solo acoustic music, especially when it’s by John Butler. This is a great album recorded live in the US mid last year.

Krafty Kuts DJ mix album – Back to Mine

This is a true Krafty Kuts classic. No ‘nu skool’ breaks, just some classic timeless tracks. I can’t resist breaking out when I hear We Play The Music by Ed Solo & Skool Of Thought.

tropfest is on this sunday at the south bank cultural forecourt

Short film festivals appeal to Kitty and I because we both have (reasonably) short attention spans. Tropfest is great because each film has to be less than seven minutes long.

If you like short films you probably already know that Tropfest is on again this Sunday. This year’s theme is the number 8. If you don’t like short films then come along and see what it is all about.

Tropfest

When we were in CBR, we went to about four Tropfest screenings. Let me tell you they rocked! Seriously, there were tons of people (strange for Canberra) and you could hardly move. But it was great.

Brisbane Tropfest is another story. Last year you could have counted the number of people who turned out. The location in Brisbane is great too, the Cultural Forecourt at South Bank. River and city views, green grass, who can complain?

Anyway, here is hoping that this year’s Tropfest screening in Brisbane is a little more lively. But not too lively, we still want to be able to find a patch of grass to sit on. The timetable is as such:

6:45pm: Tropfest finalist films Part 1 commences
7:50pm: Interval
8:20pm: Tropfest finalist films Part 2 commences
9:10pm: Judging time-out
9:30pm: Awards ceremony

You can bring along your own picnic (and a few cold ones) and it’s free, so there is literally no excuse.

Update: It’s moved to the South Bank Piazza. No green grass, but shelter from potential rain instead.
